10 Ways New Moms Can Spend Less and Live More

Happy Monday! I had such a fun time co-creating this infographic with Auto Credit Express. I mean, how could I resist when they put the beans and me in cartoon form? And they even put the beans in cloth diapers. Love that! It’s all about the fine details, people.

This infographic all started with a casual conversation about all the highs and lows us new moms experience. The last thing we want to do is spend more money than we have to or waste away the hours doing things we don’t want to do. These early months of new motherhood should be all about soaking in time with our beans and enjoying them, not worrying about losing weight or if we’re doing everything right (or wrong!)

I had a lot of fun putting this together, and I hope the infographic helps new moms everywhere spend less and live more.

Thanks Auto Credit Express for the fun partnership!

Readers, what are your top tips for spending less and living more in the early days of parenthood?

  1. I definitely exercise with my kids! I mean, they are the perfect weights to lift! 🙂 My one piece of advice for the newborn zombie mommy stage is to give yourself grace, let go of the pressure to keep everything neat, tidy, and perfect – take a nap, you’ll be thankful later. Oh and you don’t need half of the things that “they” claim you do! 🙂

  2. I really asked my wife to come to me so she can read this infographic particularly about the cloth diaper. She’s really not a fan of it but I am encouraging her to use it for our baby. This really helps because she’s planning to buy some!

      1. I was shocked the day after I showed your infographic to my wife who bought a couple of cloth diapers. I asked her “How is it?” she just gave me a big smile. Monitoring now how she likes it and how my baby feels about it. Thanks Cath.

  3. I like the idea of knowing and doing this ahead of time. It seems like just accepting it would make it a lot easier than trying to fight it. Like just knowing not to go to starbucks with your baby and get all dressed up and try to make a fancy dinner. Seems like I’d be much happier at home, in yoga bants, with a friend over and the crockpot going. Great tips!

  4. My favorite thing to do then (that I still do now with my 3 year old) is to shop the semiannual consignment sales that run here. Most of my daughter’s clothing is good quality used clothing. That is especially awesome the smaller your kids are because infants don’t exactly wear out their clothing. You can sell it once they grow out of it since it hardly looks worn! You can earn a little cash and be green at the same time. It’s great! I don’t know if those sales run everywhere though.

  5. Cute infographic! Totally agree about the newborn clothes; my daughter had clothes that she didn’t even get to wear because I had received so many at my baby shower! Babies grow fast 🙂

  6. This is awesome Cat!!! Inviting friends over is a great way to save money and hopefully they are good friends who don’t care that your house is a mess and you haven’t showered in a few days. And I totally agree about the newborn clothes, it is amazing how many we gave away with just one child. It was such a waste.

  7. Give up Starbbucks? That seems to me like an extreme sacrifice! Don’t know that I could make it through the day without their brew. But thanks for all the other great tips and advice.

  8. Like Stefanie, I’ve been in love with yoga pants for a while! Very cute infographic, and I think even those of us who aren’t moms can benefit from these tips – especially using a crock pot more often.

  9. This is the best infographic yet! Ah yes, bring on the yoga pants! I love that your cartoon self has red heels on, too!

  10. Haha this is priceless Cat! Planning ahead is key. Have fast and easy meals already prepped in the freezer to avoid the temptation of getting takeput when exhausted!

  11. You’re in cartoon form, how cool is that?! And the infographic is awesome. Now to figure out how to pin this thing 😉

  12. I don’t currently have any kids, but when I do I will definitely be purchasing most if not all of my clothes at stores with used or new condition clothing for resell.

  13. I remember being given garbage bags FULL of hand me over (not hand me downs…..because they had barely been used – see what I did there??) baby clothes before our son was born. Between those and gifts we barely bought any clothes for the first year and a half of his life. They grow out of them so fast!

  14. When we found out we were having our third, I panicked and ran out to buy a crock-pot. I’m not the biggest fan, but works in a pinch. Also- Suits? Love that show.

  15. I’ve done all of these except 3 & 6….stupid budget wouldn’t let me do 3 (but I’d do it if I had another kid) and I had awesome insurance for 6, so there was no need to negotiate on my end. But people should definitely do it!

HOW FREAKING CUTE IS THIS, by the way?!?
