$755: My Highest Earning Freelance Week Ever

Freelance IncomeHey blog peeps! Happy Monday! I have a bit of a freelancing break down post for you today.

(break-break-break-it down yo)

So, normally I don’t publish my freelancing income, but I had a really good week last week! So, I thought I’d share it with you just to show you the different streams of income that I have, and maybe you can get a better idea of how to accomplish this for yourself in the future.

First of all, my main income comes from my 9-5, and in order for my budget to work, I have to also bring in at least $575 extra every month on top of that. Yep, there’s nothing like having to work extra to light the fire under you! Our budget is very tight since the hubs is currently in school, and we’re trying hard not to rely on student loans this year. So, I work extra to make sure that we don’t have to do that.

I’ll be honest though. I really pushed myself to the absolute max last week. I actually spent so many hours on the computer that my left hand refused to type by Thursday. So, naturally, I just kept typing with my right hand. Somebody slap me. (I feel much better now!)

But, I got all of my work finished on time, and I have $755 to show for it. There’s truly no greater feeling than working hard and seeing some results. I should mention that you should only pursue this type of freelance income if you don’t mind spending time working for 3-4 hours after you’ve already worked during the day. (To see how I find my freelancing jobs, you can read this post.)

I know I won’t be able to sustain this pace forever, but for right now, while the hubs is studying 15 hours a day, it really works for us.

Anyway, here’s the breakdown from my week:

April 15-April 19 Freelance Income

BudgetBlonde.com Income: $475

Staff Writing Income: $50

Fiverr.com Income: $230

The website income is from advertising. I also write for several other personal finance websites, and that’s where the staff writing income came in. As far as Fivver, I’ve written about it before in this post, this post, and in this guest post on the Debt Movement. I was very lucky to sign up for Fiverr in its early stages when there was not much competition. Essentially, you agree to do something for $5, and you get paid for it. Fiverr has actually grown tremendously and you can now offer extra services for an additional $5, $10, and so forth on top of the original $5. This has nearly tripled my earnings, and that’s why, despite the time it takes, I can’t seem to let it go!

So there you have it, $755 in one week. I’m hoping to bring in another $400-$600 by the time April is over with, but for now I can rest easy knowing that the $575 required by my budget has already been reached and exceeded.

Do you try to make extra income on the side? What type of work do you do? Do you have any resources that you’d recommend to others? Please share in the comments below.

  1. I think it’s awesome that you push yourself to bring in an extra $575 a month so that you and your husband don’t have to rely on student loans 🙂 Congrats on a great week of freelance work!

    1. Thanks so much! It’s kind of fun for me to watch the freelancing biz grow. 🙂

  2. Woohoo! Well done 🙂 I hope that your hands don’t fail you again, haha. I can’t imagine them being that cramped up! Mine only get that way from using a pen (so far).
Think of how many months ahead you are in your earnings. That will definitely help the student loan bottom line!

    1. Thanks Anne! Yeah they’ve been protesting on me lately, haha. I sure showed them. 😉

  3. Congrats! I think I used to be more open to taking more volume of work for less pay, but now I’m focusing on what I call “big rocks,” so that I can make a lot, but hopefully not have it eat up all my time. So far so good, but we’ll see how that might change if freelance work slows down (fingers crossed it doesn’t!) .

    1. That’s definitely a good method. For sure, I hope to get there one day. Right now, I’m in survival mode. 🙂

  4. Wow, that’s a pretty rockstar week! I haven’t done at work on Fiveer, but I’m headed to your posts now to see what it’s all about. I’ve done a little freelance writing in the past few weeks so I’ve been enjoying that (and the money I’m making with that).

    1. *blush* Thanks, KK! Let me know if you have any questions about it!

  5. Awesome dude! If I had better writing skills maybe I’d get in on this freelancing stuff. But I don’t. So I’ll stick with doing side jobs for people on their homes.

    1. I’ve actually recommended you for a writing job before about home repairs! 🙂

    1. It will totally get there. It took me 2 years to make anything off of my blog, so keep rocking it!

  6. That’s amazing Cat!! My goal is to try and make an extra 250-350/month to put towards debt. I’m hopeful I’ll be able to do it. I can’t imagine having a week like yours! Congrats and thanks again for the link to look into!

  7. Nice work Cat. My blog income has actually fallen due to me not paying as much attention to my blog over the past few weeks. Life has kind of gotten in the way and it has shown. I need to get back on track and hopefully get the ball rolling in May.

  8. While I’m also not one to post my income, I really appreciate you posting yours from the last week. I had a goal for 2013 of $1k/month side income, and hearing about your success makes it seem more “achievable.” This is also SO true -> “There’s truly no greater feeling than working hard and seeing some results.”

  9. Yay!!! That’s fantastic. Since I started freelancing again (and as the blog has grown) I’ve probably managed $1-2k a month. I should be doing a big post on side hustling next month.

  10. you`ve done an amazing job! Good for you! I´d love some extra income, but I just don´t know how, and these days I just don´t have time for anything else than my studies..

  11. Great to see you reaching new heights as far as your weekly income is concerned! Keep it up.
