Love Yourself On Valentine’s Day

Today’s Message for Valentine’s Day: You can’t really love anyone unless you love yourself first.

I’m not talking about liking who you are, although that’s very important.

I’m talking about taking care of yourself, slowing down, smelling the roses tropical flowers, etc.

Even though I am far busier than I have been in the last 7 months, Grenada has still taught me a great deal about slowing down. Chances are, you probably want to slow down too but don’t know how.

I got a new job that I am loving so much, but I kept every side job (babysitting, teaching dance, writing for websites, etc.) that I had all last year. How American of me to pack it all in and schedule every minute of my day!

Grenada has taught me that it doesn’t have to be that way. I was overwhelmed, and I tried so hard to make it work. But, hey, it didn’t. So, I did something I didn’t want to do: I quit two of my side jobs. And, you know what? It was the best. decision. ever.

Why? Because for once I decided to love myself. The extra money didn’t matter if it affected my mood and my stress level. Now,  I’m a much happier person which makes me way more fun to be around and better able to take care of sweet hubs.

So, now let’s turn to you: what in your life is stressing you out?

Are you dragging your kids to 5 different activities every week? Do you have two dogs that are tearing up your house because they need to be walked? Are you expected to have a gourmet dinner cooked on the table every night? Here’s the solution: Love yourself.

Cut back.

Take a breath.

Stop saying yes to everyone.

Take time for yourself.

Order in.

Remember what’s most important.

I think we all worry about missing out, like if we don’t cram in every life experience we’re going to be behind. But, you need to love yourself because you won’t enjoy those experiences if you are stressed out all the time.

The more time you take to love yourself, the better off the rest of your family will be. You’ll be well rested, not over-scheduled, and not over-booked, which will make you kinder and happier.

It’s Valentine’s Day, so profess your love to yourself and decide to make a change for the better. It starts today. Are you in?

  1. (Merf here, my blog moved)

I try to take care of myself and not overextend myself. Sometimes I feel bad, because I feel like other people do more than me and get more done. But I must admit, it helps keep my anxiety levels in check to reduce my obligations.

  2. My mom is the type of person who just HAS to go-go-go. She gets more thing done in a day than I can in a week. 😛 Sometimes, I feel bad for not being able to keep up with her pace, but I’m trying to remember we just have different personalities!

Glad you’re getting time to just relax and enjoy your island. You will miss it! 🙂 Soak it all in!
