I am Moving to New Jersey Like, Now

So, I knew I would be moving to either Michigan, New Jersey, or New York next month because the hubs has to start hospital rotations for medical school, and that’s where students from his school get assigned. I was really hoping for Michigan because it’s inexpensive to live there and the start date was way at the end of May, which would have given us time to prepare for the move and also time for the babies to grow a little bit bigger before we hauled them across the country.

However as our immense luck would have it, we got assigned New Jersey with a start date of May 5, and we just found out last week. So, the hubs and I basically were given two weeks to find an apartment, pack up everything, and figure out what to do with the twins because our daughter is still on a monitor.

After lots of frustration and a ridiculous amount of stress, I think we have things mostly figured out now, but to be honest moving to a foreign country was far easier than finding a place to live in New Jersey.

I’m trying hard to be positive because the town we are moving to is actually really cute, and so I will update y’all when I get there. I’ll have a lot of interesting things to tweak in our budget too because the rent is an insane number I can’t even bring myself to type right now.

Also, I want to thank a lot of bloggers for their help the last few weeks, and I promise to do so more officially in a post in about a week or two when I have a little bit more time!

Until then I leave you with my adorable Easter picture:

Haha, see you on the other side!

  1. Great Easter pic! I’m sorry you have to deal with all this stress. The logistics alone have to be overwhelming. You are super organized though so I’m sure the move will go smoothly. Thanks for letting me guest post this week! Was a lot of fun to interact with ppl on a different site.

  2. Welcome to Jersey! Yes it’s insanely expensive to live here. But I’m sure you’ll manage to find ways around the highe COL.

Since coming back transportation has been the most difficult. The public trans in SF Bay was really good. In jersey it’s such a hit or miss which often times lead to needing a car.

  3. What a lovely family pic! The twins are ΓΌber cute. Moving can be stressful and cost quite a bit but I’m sure as DC says you’ll be fine. Looking forward to the next post.

  4. I can’t even imagine the stress you’re under. On a positive note you’re only like a 2hr coastal flight for from me haha.

  5. Awwww… they’re so adorable. Hope everything goes well with the move. And if it doesn’t just breathe and KEEP CALM AND BE A MOM. They are the most important thing right now. Everything else is secondary. πŸ˜‰

  6. Those little girls are so adorable and tiny! Good luck with your move. New Jersey is expensive, but you’re close to such wonderful experiences for your girls (NY and DC of course!).

  7. Good luck with the move! Even though it’s stressful now, it’ll be worth it when you and your family can settle down in a cute little NJ town. And if all else fails, say “screw it – GTL!” πŸ™‚

  8. Congrats. My wife just gave birth to twins a week ago and we’re making do in a 550 sqft apartment in Manhattan. Not the best for sanity but easier on the wallet.

  9. Awww those pictures are just too cute! I hope everything works out for the best for you guys. I would be so stressed!

  10. I think I like the second picture more. Also I think it’s great that they already have their own easter baskets, though I’m curious what you put in an easter basket for 2 month olds. Unless those are your easter baskets, in which case, that’s pretty awesome too! Good luck with the move.

  11. That Easter pic is beautiful! So scary having to pick up and move at the drop of a hat, but I know that you will manage it, just like you have managed everything else! Go superwoman!

  12. Adorable pics! Oh man, that is a really fast move! Well, I’m a Jersey Girl and it’s not so bad here. Well, I guess it depends if you’re moving to South Jersey or North Jersey because that’s like two different states, Ha! Anyway, I live in North Jersey and I love all the great access I have to NYC and the major airports to travel where I please. I look forward to reading about your experience.

  13. Wow, that’s a lot of change in a short amount of time! Best of luck in NJ – it has its perks (namely that it’s close to NYC! πŸ™‚ ) – No, but in all seriousness, you guys will be great. Love the photos – keep em coming! Happy (belated) Easter and good luck with the move!

  14. CONGRATULATIONS, now I see the babies for the first time. They’re so tiny and cute. You’ll see in few weeks how they become ’round’. So happy to see you guys looking so well πŸ˜‰

  15. I have been to the Great Adventure in NJ, and the Boardwalk, but it would not be on my first choice to move to either.

Why can’t they get assigned to Hawaii?

  16. I’m sure that a move is not the thing you’d want to do so soon after giving birth, but it’s all for the best and I am sure that everything will be perfect and all the stress that you went through during the time is well worth it. Good luck with your move!

  17. If I lived in New Jersey I would help you out with the teeny tinies! They are so cute I can’t stand it! Also, I would help out with the move…but, I’m in Colorado! Don’t be shy in accepting any help offered.

  18. I can’t imagine how stressful that must be, but I bet someday you’ll look back and laugh. I love the Easter picture. You look amazingly put together in both photos. Can’t wait to hear more details about the move.

  19. Love those pics, haha… reminds me of a time my mom was once taking care of our boy and afterwards asked, “Does your son… umm… ever NOT do what you ask of him?” πŸ™‚ Of course!!

Lots of adventures going on over there – soak it up as much as you can, my friend – even the crazy parts!

  20. Love the pictures – both of them! πŸ˜€ I know this is a big move and a stressful one, but you guys have got this. You’re both strong, determined people and you can make any situation work! Best of luck to you and I’ll be sending positive vibes your way/hoping everything goes great and smoothly!

  21. What a beautiful Easter pic! And I’d like to tell you it gets easier to take them when they get older but ummm…. it takes a bit longer than you think! πŸ™‚ Man, they didn’t give you much time at all. I’m glad you found a place and have things figured out, if it caused you a ton of stress to get to this point. Good luck with your move – can’t wait to hear more about it!

  22. Those pictures are ridiculously adorable. I’m so sorry you had to move on such short notice. My boyfriend and I just went through the same thing, sans kids, and while it was stressful, we made it through! So if we can, you guys will be just fine. Best of luck, and can’t wait to hear how everything turns out.

  23. Good luck with the move! Big changes on a short timeframe are so stressful… and I can’t even imagine what doing that with brand new twins would be like!

If you have a chance, shoot me an email and let me know what part of Jersey you’ll be in. We might be neighbors!

  24. Awww I love the Easter pic! The twins are beautiful, so happy everything went well for you and I’m sure your move will go fine. Best of luck with the move and look forward to reading the “aftermath” posts! πŸ™‚

  25. Congrats on the move, new job, and twins. Welcome to the Garden State as we are neighbors. I couldn’t agree more with you rent is ridiculous, but its cheaper than owning with taxes in the mix. Let me know if you need anything, as I have 3 year old twins. It will be an interesting journey for you.
